Bookhaul boekenfestijn Hasselt

Catch your Death door Louise Voss & Mark Edwards
Flaptekst: A terrifying secret - with the power to destroy...

Twenty years ago, Kate Maddox was a volunteer at a research centre where scientists hunted for a cure for the common cold virus. That summer, Kate fell in love with a handsome young doctor, Stephen, but her stay ended in his tragic death and Kate fled to a new life in America.

Now Kate is back in England and on the run with her younger son, this time for her vile husband. But a chance encounter sets her on a terrifying path of discovery. What really happened at the Cold Research Unit two decades ago?

Pursued by both her estranged husband and a psychotic killer who is obsessed with his prey, Kate must fight to solve the puzzle of the past - uncovering a sickening betrayal and a truth more horrifying than she could ever have imagined...

Flaptekst: Emma Watson, a brilliant research physician, has been training for the mission of a lifetime: to study living creatures in space. Jack McCallum, Emma's estranged husband, has shared her dream of space travel, but a medical condition has grounded him. He must watch from the sidelines...

The mission abroad the space station turns into a nightmare when a culture of single-celled organisms begins to regenerate out of control - and infects the crew with agonising and deadly results. Emma struggles to contain the deadly micro-organisms while back home Jack and NASA work against the clock to bring her home. But with the contagion is not threatening Earth, there can be no rescue, leaving Emma and the astronauts quarantined in space, where they are dying one by one.

Flaptekst: Everyone has something to lose.
Before the accident, Lia Kahn was a lot of things: happy, loved, human... alive. Now, six moths after the crash that killed her, after being reborn, Lia has finally accepted her new reality. She is a machine, a mech, and she belongs with her own kind. It's a wild, carefree life, without rules and without fear. Because there's nothing to fear when you have nothing left to lose.
But when a voice from her past cries out for revenge, everything changes. Lia is forced to choose between her old life and her new one. Between humans and mechs. Between sacrificing the girl she used to be and saving the boy she used to love.
Even if it means he'll hate her forever.

The Devil's Feather door Minette Walters
Flaptekst: Have you ever wanted to bury a secret so deeply that no one will find out about it?

With private security firms supplying bodyguards in every theatre of war, who will notice the emergence of a sexual psychopath from the ranks of the mercenaries?

Reuters correspondent Connie Burns is no stranger to the world's troublespots, including the vicious civil unrest in Sierra Leone and the war in Iraq. But as she begins to suspect that a foreigner is using the chaos of war to act out sadistic fantasies against women, her efforts to bring him to justice leave her devastated.

Degraded and terrified, she goes into hiding in England and strikes up a friendship with Jess Derbyshire, a loner whose reclusive nature may well be masking secrets of her own. Connie draws from the other woman's strength and makes the hazardous decision to attempt a third unmasking of a serial killer...

Knowing he will come looking for her...

The 500 door Matthew Quirk
Mike Ford wanted to learn the Washington game. He didn't know he'd be playing for his life.
Flaptekst: Mike Ford was following his father into a life of crime, when he chose to go straight. Now he's landed the ultimate job with the Davies Group, a powerful political consulting firm run by the charismatic Henry Davies. But he's about to discover that power comes with a price, and being on the side of the lawmakers doesn't mean your work is legal.

Caught up in a deadly case, Mike needs to lie, cheat and steal to survive and possibly, even kill...

Witch World en Thirst the Eternal Dawn door Christopher Pike
Flaptekst Thirst the Eternal Dawn: I keep thinking. I'm never going to die, but I could die any day. Even today.

Alisa has spent the past five thousand years as a vampire, living alone and fighting for survival. In her loneliness, Alisa cannot resist brining Teri - a descendant of her human family - into her life. But Alisa is surrounded by death and destruction, and just by knowing Alisa, Teri's life is at risk.
Alisa's guilt grows when she becomes involved in a dangerous conspiracy. A convert organization knows Alisa's secret and will stop at nothing to use her powers for this cause. As Alisa desperately tries to protect herself and Teri from the unknown enemy, she discovers a force more powerful and more lethal than anything she has ever seen. Alisa doesn't know who to trust, who to challenge, or she she will become.

Flaptekst Witch World: Heading off for a weekend in Las Vegas with her friends, Jessie Ralle has only one worry: how to make it through the road trip in the same car with her ex, Jimmy Kelter - the guy who broke her heart five months ago when he dumped her for no reason. The guy who's finally ready to tell her why he did it, because he wants her back.
But what Jessie doesn't realize is that Jimmy is the least of her problems.
In Las Vegas she meets Russ, a mesmerizing stranger who shows her how to gamble, and who never seems to lose. Curious, Jessie wants to know his secret, and in response, alone with her in his hotel room, he teaches her a game that opens a door to another reality.
To Witch World.
Jessie discovers that she's stumbled into a world where some people can do the impossible and others may not even be human. For a time she fears she's lost her mind. Are there really witches? Is she one of them?

The Echo door Minette Walters
Flaptekst: It was the smell that Mrs Powell noticed first. Slightly sweet. Slightly unpleasant... It shocked her badly to find a dead man in the corner, his head slumped on his knees.

Who was Billy Blake, other than a homeless alcoholic who wandered the streets?

Why was he found dead from starvation in one of the richest areas of one of the richest capitals of the world?

And why did he die alone in the garage of walthy architect Amanda Powell - a woman whose wealth can only be explained if her husband is dead...?

Port Tropique door Barry Gifford
Flaptekst: Revolution is simmering in the heat of battered Central American town Port Topique, where protagonist Franz Hall is an "intellectual Meursault in a paranoid Hemingway landscape, a self-conscious Conradian adventurer, a Lord Jim in the earliest stages of self-willed failure". The ineffectual hero spends his days drinking and observing people in the zócalo, and occasional nights involved in an ivory-smuggling operation threatened by impending government siege. Always persistent are memories of Marie and what was lost. In this sinuous narrative of dislocation and remorse, Barry Gifford details Franz's mundanity and the bizarre cast of characters swirling around him.

Bones to Ashes door Kathy Reichs
Flaptekst: Dr Temperance Brennan takes on a case that uncovers horrors she could never have predicted.
It is the skeleton of a young girl, no more than fourteen years old - and forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan is struggling to control her emotions.
The coroner is being evasive, insisting the bones are ancient and of no interest. But this doesn't feel right, and Tempe is convinced that someone is hiding something.
Working on instinct, Tempe takes matters into her own hands. But what started in the lab quickly becomes her most harrowing and personal, case yet.

Breaking Yawn, the second book in the Twisted Sage a Parody
Flaptekst: 'Some would say my relationship with Teddy was crazy. but I knew that when I died, it would be at the hands of someone who loved me, and that wasn't insane at all. It was Perfect Romance...'
Heffa Lump has faced many difficulties in her love affair with the world's prettiest vampire, Teddy Kelledy. But now she must confront the most terrifying dilemma of all. Should she succumb to Teddy's dearest wish, marry him and become a vampire? Or should she change her mind for no particular reason and run off with Joe Cahontas, the rugged werewolf, instead?
The path of true love runs very silly indeed in this parody of the final parts of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series.

Flaptekst: When she was 15, Harper Connelly was struck by lighting. It left her with headaches and episodes of muscle weakness. Sometimes her right hand shakes. And she can find dead people.
It's taken a few years, but Harper's made a success of her life. She's making a living, using her talent to help people, and she's got a boyfriend - her stepbrother Tolliver. Everything seems to be on track... and then Tolliver's father appears, seeking forgiveness, and the police receive news that Harper's sister Cameron, missing for so many years, has been spotted. So Harper's life is becoming a little complicated. But she never thought these complications would include Tolliver being shot, or seeing a policeman die taking a bullet for her.
Harper can find dead bodies; now it's clear someone wants her to become one...
